AseraCare invites you, your family, friends, and the Plano community to “A Butterfly to Remember,” a national AseraCare Memorial Event in honor of loved ones who have passed away this year.

Sarah Denke of Plano, an 11th grader at Faith Lutheran High School, was recently recognized by The Mockingbird Chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas for her placement in the 42nd Annual Collin County Poetry Contest.

The Heidi Zettl Band is performing at Openin Bell Coffee in Dallas on May 25 at 9 p.m.

Starting June 10, 2013, the McKinney YMCA will start offering Taekwondo classes. Classes will introduce students to basic martial arts skills while emphasizing discipline and self-control. Students ages 5 and up are welcome to attend classes.

Beginning this month of June through August, the Allen Arts Alliance will be offering several art camps designed to give children of varying grade levels a delightfully fun experience in different art forms and media. Our art teachers will provide distinctive art instructions in drawing, water color, mixed media, etc. with emphasis on creating unique masterpieces that kids can bring home while learning about techniques and inspirations from classical and modern masters.

The memory of Elizabeth Guardiola, a dedicated Susan G. Komen volunteer, is honored in Elizabeth’s Garden, now on display at Collin Creek Mall.

Perhaps there is no more sacred place on earth than the gravesite of a fallen soldier, having offered his or her life so we may live in liberty and the peace of our home. Seven hundred seventy-six American veteran heroes now rest in the historic Pecan Grove Cemetery, from the Mexican War to the Persian Gulf wars. The history of McKinney, Collin County and Texas is woven among the historical figures also buried there. However, it is the “other” story, the story of courage and sacrifice, given with pride to our nation, that we honor each May.

Frisco Community Theatre (non equity) is holding auditions for Love, Sex and the I.R.S. Monday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 11, 7-10 p.m. by William Van Zandt and Jane Milmore, directed by Anton Bucher.

DanIel Pendergraft graduated from Allen HS in 2009. He has been attending Belmont in Nashville, Tenn., for the last four years. He will graduate in December. He is the keyboard player in Williams & Company. They are raising funds to bring their band to Texas. Here is some info about them.

On Saturday, May 11, Plano's Haggard Park was filled with fun for all ages at "Cruisin' in the Park" -- a Plano Rotary Club event supported by The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation Inc. and the Historic Downtown Plano Association to celebrate Plano and National Historic Preservation Month.

The 2012-2013 Planoette year came to an official end with the Senior Mother Daughter Tea at Glen Eagles Country Club on May 5.

Beginning Wednesday, May 1, 2013, The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation Inc. will present “Rural Texas Women at Work, 1930–1960,” an exhibition sponsored by Texas A&M University, Texas Agricultural Extension Service, Arts Council of Brazos Valley and produced by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The exhibit will be on display at the Interurban Railway Museum in historic downtown Plano.
