The Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny event from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at Evans Recreation Center, 1116 Hillcrest St.
The event typically draws hundreds of children and parents. There will be a traditional pancake breakfast for $5 that will include pancakes, bacon and sausage.
The parks department will also offer pictures with the bunny for an additional $3. An egg hunt event will follow the breakfast.
The parks and recreation department will offer outdoor activities in conjunction with the breakfast to keep the family entertained until the egg hunt event starts at 10:30 a.m. Among the activities planned are a petting zoo, bounce houses, hamster balls and face painting. Some activities may have a small fee attached to them.
"We will have the other activities going on for everyone to enjoy while they wait for the egg hunt. This will give parents a chance to enjoy some more time with their children," Smith said.
The egg hunt is free of charge and is open to children from infants to 9 years old. The children will compete to gather eggs filled with candy and prizes.
"We will have different areas set up for the egg hunt. The children will all be divided into age groups," Smith said. "We are doing the egg hunt a little different this year. We are adding more to the event this year and wanted to make the event larger. In the past we had all of the activities in the front of Evans. This year we wanted to use more of the land around the recreation center so we could add the hamster balls."
