Football: Vikings plunder Turner
By Justin Thomas, jthomas@starlocalnews.com
R.L. Turner's football team continues to struggle to find its way offensively in District 6-5A as the Lions were shut out Friday on its Homecoming night by Irving Nimitz, 35-0.
Through two games in district, the Lions have scored just one touchdown.
Against the Vikings, Turner trailed just 7-0 at halftime but were done in by a third quarter that saw Nimitz record three touchdowns.
However, Turner committed three turnovers while forcing just two and also surrendered a 61-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half.
Nimitz followed with touchdown runs of 57 and 92 yards by Jimmy Clark in the quarter to pull away. Clark would tack on another touchdown in the fourth and finished with 198 yards on nine carries with four scores.
Running back J.P. Patterson eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the fifth consecutive game, finishing with 168 yards on 32 rushes.
Turner continues at 7:30 p.m. Friday on the road against L.D. Bell from Bedford's Pennington Field.
The Raiders (5-0, 2-0) are coming off a 39-6 win last week against Irving.
