10-4A SOFTBALL: Poteet rolls over West Mesquite in district-opening win

Poteet scored 10 runs in the second inning and went on to a 17-2 rout of crosstown rival West Mesquite in the district opener for both teams on Tuesday.
Selena Mendoza was a single short of hitting for the cycle, as she had a double, triple and home run, scored four runs and drove in five. Madison Yannetti was 4-for-4 for three RBIs, while Cassie Vasquez struck out eight in four innings to earn the win on the mound, while also driving in a pair of runs at the plate.
The 10-4A teams will be busy during the next few days. Poteet is scheduled to host Carrollton Newman Smith on Friday night, play at Highland Park on Saturday afternoon and then play on the road at Forney on Tuesday.
