A community tradition continues on April 6, when people will line the streets in downtown Mesquite and the sound of horse hooves pounding the concrete can be heard as part of the city's annual rodeo parade. The parade is in its 56th year in Mesquite.

"This is a feel-good event. We want those who participate to have fun and those who watch to have just as much fun," said Cliff Keheley, a member of the Exchange Club of Mesquite.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. and will follow its traditional route beginning on Belt Line at Newsom, then proceeding through downtown Mesquite and ending on Galloway Avenue at New Market. The Exchange Club recommends parking on Front Street, at Mesquite High School, City Lake Park or in any available spaces in downtown to watch the parade.

"The traditional format has worked for many years and we want to keep up the tradition," Keheley said.

The organizers are currently looking for participants to be in the parade.

"[The parade] is a great opportunity to showcase your business or organization," Keheley said.

Anyone interested in participating in the event may obtain an entry form by visiting www.mesquitechamber.com, by email at rodeoparade@cityofmesquite.com, and by phone at 972-285-0211.

"Our biggest challenge is getting the word out. We will take entries up until March 29 and try and get the word out to the community about the date and time [for the parade]," Keheley said.

The Exchange Club of Mesquite is dedicated to community service, child abuse prevention and American pride. Each year the club passes out American flags to all children attending the parade as part of its Give a Kid a Flag to Wave project.

The parade is also sponsored by the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, the city of Mesquite and the HAM Association of Mesquite.
