12-5A BOYS BASKETBALL: North Mesquite's playoff chances end with one-point loss to Horn

It was that kind of a week for North Mesquite.
Just a few days after Longview hit a buzzer beater for a one-point victory that put a huge dent in their playoff hopes, Horn finished the job on Tuesday with another heartbreaker.
The Jaguars opened a big first half lead and then held off a late Stallion charge for a 54-53 victory.
The Jaguars led by eight early on and after both teams struggled in the second quarter, carried a 23-13 lead into halftime.
The Stallions picked up the pace late, scoring 25 points in the fourth quarter, but the comeback ended one point short.
Horn got 26 points from Anthony Sharp and 11 from John McMiller. Mike Williams scored 26 points for North Mesquite, with Norman Alexander also in double figures wtih 11.
Longview rallied to defeat Rockwall on Tuesday to set up a showdown for first place with Mesquite on Friday.
The Skeeters, who had a bye on Tuesday, won the first meeting and would wrap up sole possession of the 12-5A title with another victory. A Lobo win, however, would give them a one-half game lead atop the standings.
In the race for third place, Horn is trying to hold off Tyler Lee, which holds the tiebreaker due to its head-to-head sweep. The Jaguars host last-place Rockwall on Friday and then play at Mesquite on Tuesday. The Red Raiders have a bye on Friday and close the regular season at North Mesquite on Tuesday.
