12-5A BOYS SOCCER: Stallions knock Tyler Lee out of first place

North Mesquite knows that if it wants to continue to rise in the 12-5A standings, it needs to topple the teams ahead of it.
The Stallions did just that on Tuesday, edging previously undefeated Tyler Lee in a 2-1 victory.
North Mesquite (3-1-1-0, 11 points) remains in third place but inches to within a point of Tyler Lee (4-1-0-0, 12 points), which slipped back into second.
The Stallions used goals from Juan Mendez and Oscar Ocampo to earn the win. Lumi Kaba scored for the Red Raiders, but it was not enough.
Like North Mesquite, Horn also gained ground on the team it was trailing on Tuesday with a 1-0 shootout win over Longview.
The Jaguars (2-2-1-0, eight points) pick up two points and move into a tie for fourth place with the Lobos (2-2-0-2).
Rockwall (5-0-0-0, 15 points) remained undefeated and took over sole possession of first place with a 3-0 victory over Rockwall-Heath.
North Mesquite and Horn have both been streaking of late, but something has to give when they meet on Friday at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
The Stallions will then get their second crack at the Yellow Jackets when the second half of 12-5A play begins on Tuesday.
Mesquite will face Rockwall-Heath on Friday in a battle of teams searching for their first district win.
