12-5A GIRLS SOCCER: Stallions, Skeeters fall back in playoff race

Entering Tuesday's action, North Mesquite was flying high after handing Horn its first district loss.
Rockwall was equally grateful to the Stallions, as that result allowed them to return to first place.
But the Yellow Jackets were not willing to cede the same kind of result on Tuesday, as they picked up a 3-1 victory over North Mesquite, who got only a goal from Emily Rico.
Rockwall (5-0-1-1) pushes its district total to 18 points, giving them a four-point cushion over the Jaguars (4-1-1-0, 14 points), who were idle on Tuesday.
The Stallions (3-3-0-1, 11 points) fell back into fourth place, as they were leapfrogged by Longview (4-3-0-0, 12 points) after the Lobos shut out Mesquite, 2-0.
On Friday, Megan Potter and Alexis Santos scored to lead North Mesquite to the 2-1 win over Horn. The Jaguars got a goal from Arianna Dunsworth with an assist from Courtney King, but were unable to net the equalizer.
The Stallions and Skeeters are currently separated by two points in the race for the fourth and final playoff berth, making Friday's meeting at 5:30 p.m. at Mesquite Memorial Stadium a huge game as far as the postseason is concerned.
Mesquite also hosts Rockwall on Tuesday, while North Mesquite has a bye.
Horn will look to get back on the winning track with a pair of home games against the bottom two teams in the district when they host Rockwall-Heath on Friday and Tyler Lee on Tuesday, both at Berry Middle School.
