12-5A BASEBALL: Skeeters, Jaguars fall in district opener
By DEVIN HASSON, dhasson@starlocalnews.com
It was a rough opening night to the 12-5A season for Mesquite and Horn.
The Skeeters could not derail Longview, who remained undefeated with a 7-1 victory on Tuesday.
Mesquite got doubles from Carlos Chavez and Grant French, but they were two of only four hits. The Lobos, who are 8-0 overall, banged out 12 hits in the win.
The teams will take a break from 12-5A play later this week to compete in tournaments. Mesquite is slated to be in the Duncanville Art Blair Classic, Horn in the Pearce Tournament and North Mesquite in the Grand Prairie Classic.
They will return to district play on Tuesday. The Jaguars will host Rockwall at 4 p.m. at Tillery Field. The Stallions, who had a district bye on Tuesday, will play Tyler Lee at 7 p.m. at Copeland Field while the Skeeters will travel to play at Rockwall-Heath.
