Rowlett HS junior is only athlete in 7 GISD high schools to compete in powerlifting championship

Joey Clegg, a junior at Rowlett High School, was the only qualifying athlete from seven high schools in the Garland ISD to compete in the THSPA Region VI Powerlifting Championship Division 1.
The event was held Saturday, March 2, at Everman High School in Everman, Texas. There were 111 athletes representing 42 high school teams competing for the State Powerlifting Finals. Joey placed eighth in the 220lb class, representing Rowlett High School and coach Brian Ludlow.
His lifts include 435lb squat, 315lb bench press, and 500lb deadlift. Joey achieved personal best lifts of 520lb squat and 530lb deadlift during the meet.

There were several regional records set that day by competing athletes. Congratulations to all of these hardworking and dedicated young men who qualified for this event and competed at the state level.
Joey plays defensive tackle for the Rowlett Eagles and hopes to continue his athletic and academic career at the University of Texas.
