Sunnyvale warms up for playoffs in style with win over Kaufman
By DEVIN HASSON, dhasson@starlocalnews.com
There was nothing on the line when Sunnyvale met Kaufman on Friday in terms of the upcoming boys basketball playoffs.
But for the Raiders, who have been playing some of the best ball in the area in recent weeks, the last thing they wanted to do was lose any of the momentum that they had built.
Mission accomplished as far as that was concerned, as Sunnyvale won its 10th consecutive game with a 59-43 victory over Kaufman in a playoff warm-up game at Sunnyvale High School.
Sunnyvale got off to a slow start, scoring only seven points in the opening quarter, but they quickly heated up, using a 19-9 run in the second to take a 26-18 lead.
The Raiders steadily pulled away from there, pushing the lead to double digits through three quarters and outscoring Kaufman 16-10 in the fourth.
Stephen Kirven had 17 points and Thomas Wendt added 15 to pace the scoring output.
