The 2012 Volunteer of the Year, Ambassador of the Year and Business of the Year winners were announced at a Friday luncheon of the Coppell Chamber of Commerce at the Coppell Senior and Community Center.

Angie Huff, who has planned the annual Coppell Chamber of Commerce gala for the past two years, was named 2012 Volunteer of the Year.

Jeff Varnell was named 2012 Ambassador of the Year. Varnell owns the Trinity River Kayak Co., Shutterup Quick and Coppell Realty.

Right Choice, owned and operated by Jeff and Jan Wagner Adkinson, was named 2012 Business of the Year. Right Choice is a painting and construction company.

The three award winners were introduced by Casey Klein, 2012 chairman of the Coppell Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Kristi Valentine, chamber president, announced that the 2013 Coppell chamber gala will be Saturday, April 27, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lewisville.

Also at Friday’s luncheon, Haley Madigan, a senior at Coppell High School, was presented as the Student of the Month.

Mike Jasso, Coppell High School principal, said Haley will be graduating in the top 10 percent of the class. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society.

A National Merit Scholar semi-finalist, she also has received the U.S. House of Representatives certificate of special congressional recognition for development as a leader ad the IB Visual Arts Academic Excellence Award.

“Haley Madigan is one of the brightest and most inquisitive minds here at Coppell High school,” said Ian Vanderschee, IB math teacher. “Academically, she pursues knowledge that goes well beyond the curriculum, to the point where she feels confident discussing any topic in an eloquent manner.”

Jasso said, “Haley demonstrates the traits we all want for our learners and our children.”

Also at the meeting, Andy Rittler of the LBJ Infrastructure Group provided an update on the progress of construction on the LBJ Freeway and parts of I-35 just north and south of LBJ. Also, Alyssa Tenorio of NorthGate Constructors, gave an update on the progress of highway construction near DFW Airport.

Rittler said work on LBJ is 40 percent complete and Tenorio said the highway construction project near the airport is 85 percent complete.
