With the loss of a coin flip, 11-5A co-champion Rowlett drew a little tougher assignment in the first round of the playoffs.

That hardly mattered to the Eagles.

Second-seeded Rowlett (26-3) had few problems with Longview, the third seed from 12-5A, as it coasted to a 74-55 victory on Tuesday in a Class 5A bi-district playoff game at Lindale High School.

The Eagles advance to the area finals where they will face Plano East (28-5), who defeated Skyline, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Berkner High School.

Rowlett faced a Lobo team that slumped late in the season, going from playing for the 12-5A championship to falling back into the third seed.

The Eagles never let them turn their fortunes around. Rowlett scored 21 points in the first quarter and led 37-28 at halftime.

They put it away in the third, using a 19-10 run to push the advantage to 18.

Jeffrey Carroll scored 23 points, Nathan Hawkins had 18 and Kanard Robinson added 12 for the Eagles.

The area round meeting with Plano East will be the second of the season for the two teams. The Eagles defeated the Panthers, 60-54, at the Garland ISD Tournament in December.
