Although it is not yet the halfway point of the 23-4A season, it is pretty clear that the district championship will be decided between Poteet, West Mesquite and Forney.

That puts the utmost importance on every head-to-head meeting between those clubs.

Tuesday marked the first of such events and it was the Pirates that used a goal from Charles Ojeda to post a 1-0 victory over the Jackrabbits.

West Mesquite held serve, as well, getting goals from Javier Garcia, Emmanuel Hernandez an Omar Loera in a 3-1 victory over Kaufman.

As a result, all three teams are tied for first place in 23-4A with 12 points, although Forney has played one extra game.

The top of the district standings will take on a different shape during the next week, starting with the showdown between Poteet (4-0-0-0, 12 points), who remained undefeated overall on the season at 11-0-3, and West Mesquite (4-0-0-0, 12 points) when they meet on Friday at 7:15 p.m. at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

For the Wranglers, it is the first of a huge week, as they must also travel to play at Forney on Tuesday.

Poteet concludes the first half of the 23-4A season on Tuesday against Crandall.
