Eagles sweep Rockwall meet

Allen track and field took the Rockwall Jacket Classic by force Saturday.

The Eagles posted lopsided first-place team finishes at the meet, with the girls tallying 182 points and the boys complementing with 158.

Sophomore Kennedy Knight led Allen with first-place sprints in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Other top finishes for the Lady Eagles included senior Taylor Dunlap (400), senior Katherine Allen (3,200), junior Deonca Bookman (300 hurdles) and sophomore Kiyana Dixon (triple jump).

On the boys side, junior Grant Finney swept the 110 and 300 hurdles while also contributing as a leg in the Eagles' winning 1,600 relay.

Alongside D.J. Lee and Evan Jones, senior Gilson Umunnakwe contributed to the relay while also placing first in the 400. Senior Cameron Hartsfield added first in the 200 while senior John Rocha took first in the discus throw.

Sidekicks playoff opener set

Following Saturday's regular season finale against the Texas Strikers, the Dallas Sidekicks will turn their attention toward the playoffs.

Waiting at the start of the Sidekicks' quest for the PASL Ron Newman Cup is a team they're all too familiar with: the Rio Grande Valley Flash. The Sidekicks and Flash will square off in a two-leg series that begins on the road at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Game 2 is Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. from the AEC. In the case of a tie, the Sidekicks and Flash will play a 15-minute mini-game following Game 2.

Dallas and RGV have played four times this season with the Sidekicks holding a 3-1 lead.

Revolution trims roster to 30

With the first phase of training camp in the books, the Texas Revolution has narrowed its roster to 30 players.

Opening camp with roughly 40 players vying for a spot on the 21-man roster, the first leg of cuts were released Monday. Among the names who failed to make it was Allen alum Nathan Dick, who was in competition to be the team's quarterback.

Players who made the first cut and have experience in the indoor football scene with the Allen Wranglers included defensive back Frankie Solomon Jr., wide receiver Ramonce Taylor and defensive lineman Prince Hickman.

The 30 players on the roster will be in action today at 7 p.m. from the AEC as the Revolution host the North Texas Crunch in a preseason scrap.

Hall of Honor nominations

Though the Allen ISD began enshrining people into its Hall of Honor when Eagle Stadium opened, the district is still seeking future nominees.

Candidates must be ex-athletes, employees, teams or supporters of AISD. They must have graduated from Allen at least 10 years ago and demonstrated good character throughout their post-high school athletic career. If a nominee is deceased, a representative of his/her family may accept the honor.

Nomination forms can be found at: allenisd.org.

Nominations should include as much detail as possible to help choose the best candidates. The selection committee will name recipients at an annual AISD Hall of Honor banquet.

Tripucka joining Aggies

Allen senior punter Shane Tripucka will be joining Texas A&M as a preferred walk-on.

Tripucka had been on the Aggies' radar for some time as he attended a kicking camp in College Station over the summer. That gave A&M an advantage over Sam Houston State, where he was offered a scholarship, and preferred walk-on status at Texas, Texas Tech and Boston College.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder averaged 42 yards per punt in 2012 as part of an Eagles squad that won the Class 5A Division I State Championship.
