There was no shortage of goals from Creekview's girls soccer team Friday as the Lady Mustangs cruised past rival Newman Smith in District 20-4A action, 5-1.

Alexiz Magro-Malo led the way with a pair of goals for Creekview, which also received scores from Kaitlyn Martin, Abbey Olson and Katie Zimmerman.

Wins are key in particular early this year as the district features just five teams and eight matches.

Creekview continued Tuesday against reigning state champ Highland Park (results not available as of press time), which eliminated Creekview in the regional finals last season.

The Lady Mustangs host Little Elm Friday and The Colony next Tuesday.

Creekview isn't the only Carrollton squad playing well on the pitch lately as the Turner is out to a 4-1 start in District 6-5A. The Lady Lions lone hiccup came last Tuesday in a 4-1 loss against Grapevine, which received a pair of goals from Tori Bowman. Hanna Barker scored for the Lady Lions and also chipped in a pair of goals Friday as Turner bounced back to defeat Irving, 3-1. Claudia Rojas also scored for Turner.

In boys action, the Lions have bounced back from their only defeat to win three consecutive, including outlasting Irving Friday, 4-3.

Creekview's boys team dropped its district opener against Smith, 2-0, as the Trojans were paced by two goals from Josh Malone.
