Fire truck pull to raise Relay for Life funds

By Dan Eakin, deakin@starlocalnews.com
Can a team of up to 10 people pull a 55,000-pound fire truck for 75 yards?
And if so, how long would it take them?
Those questions will be answered at a Fire Truck Pull scheduled for noon Friday, March 22, at Wagon Wheel Park.
The winning teams will be the one with the Fastest Team Pull, and the team which raises the most money.
Team members are invited to bring a sack lunch and a cheering section.
“This is a great opportunity to build community spirit, raise funds for a great cause and just have some fun,” said Coppell Fire Chief Kevin Richardson. “We are expecting a good turnout.”
Richardson said fire departments in other cities have sponsored similar truck pulls with great success.
He said team members should be 18 years old and over, although some high school teams may have members a little younger. Businesses, corporations, churches and any organizations are invited to participate.
Two large fire trucks will be used in the event. A driver will be in each truck to apply brakes when needed.
Registration forms are now available at www.coppelltx.gov and must be submitted before 5 p.m. March 15. Entry fee is $10 per person and checks should be made out to the American Cancer Society.
