Boys basketball: Press gives Ryan fits in win

Lewisville's boys basketball team has won three of its past four contests in District 5-5A as the Farmers continue their quest to clinch a playoff berth.
Entering Friday's game against state-ranked Hebron (6-0), the Farmers (4-2) were tied with Flower Mound for second behind the Hawks.
"We're playing better," said Gary Collier, Lewisville head coach. "We're playing with more confidence and the kids are wanting it more."
On Tuesday, Lewisville defeated Denton Ryan, 47-38, behind 13 points from Kaelin Love. Anthony Davis chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Farmers.
"Kaelin had a good game," Collier said. "He played on the front line of our press and was able to get a lot of hands on deflections and tips to force turnovers. Offensively, he did some different things. He hit a couple of 3-pointers and had a few assists. We need him to keep shooting, because we are a much better team when he is effective on the outside, too."
Lewisville led at halftime, 21-15, before distancing from the Raiders with a 17-10 spurt in the third quarter.
"We pretty much led the whole way," Collier said. "Defensively, we did a good job and created turnovers, which is what we were looking to do. And on offense, I was pleased with how we moved the ball around against Ryan's zone. They really tried to slow the game down but we adjusted well."
Jaden Wright and Caleb Loggins contributed eight and six points, respectively.
Gilbert Jackson scored 13 points for Ryan.
Lewisville continues at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hebron, which is currently unbeaten in district.
"We're trying to get a playoff spot but we would also like to move up to the second spot if possible because that will give us an easier game in the first round," Collier said. "We're doing a good job on defense, we just need to score a little more offensively."
