Denton County's hockey team dropped to 5-6 in the Varsity East division of the AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League as the Spartans came up short for a second consecutive week, falling against Richardson-Rockwall, 6-2.
With the win, Richardson-Rockwall (9-2) is in sole possession of second in the division behind Plano West (11-0).
Denton County was outscored in the second period, 2-1, in which they outshot Richardson-Rockwall, 15-14.
Cameron Mixson and Kaleb Croft each recorded goals for Denton County, while goalie Link Ferch made 40 saves in net. Devin Howard and Josh Weese notched assists.
The Spartans also spent much of game short-handed as Denton County took 11 penalties, including six in the third period, while drawing just four.
Coming off a 3-1 loss Nov. 29 against Garland, the Spartans look to get back in the win column at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Midlothian (2-8-1) at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Farmers Branch.
Marcus, meanwhile, also sits at 5-6 and is coming off a 3-1 loss against Southlake Carroll.
The Marauders got on the board first courtesy of a goal from Michael Kobus. However, the Dragons responded with a goal in the first, second and third periods.
Kamen Kessler made 33 saves for the Marauders.
Next up for Marcus is Allen (3-6-2) at 8:15 p.m. Thursday from the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Farmers Branch. The Marauders are in fifth in the West division.
