Girls soccer: Groff sets scoring mark, Dragons go 3-1 in Round Rock

Published: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 6:20 PM CST
Carroll senior Sophie Groff set the program's scoring record last weekend as the forward netted the 67th goal of her career. Groff broke the previous record of 66 set by Kristen Moran, who was at Carroll from 2002-05.

For the season, Groff has recorded eight goals, tied with Grace Cory for the team high.

The Lady Dragons (11-1) got a glimpse of where they want to be in two months last weekend when they competed at the Georgetown Lady Governor's Cup. And if the squad plays like it did, state is a real possibility.

Carroll outscored its opponents, 9-0, en route to a 3-0 mark with wins over Cibolo Steele (3-0), Round Rock (2-0) and Conroe Oak Ridge (4-0).

The squad kicked off its District 4-5A slate Tuesday at Keller Central (results not available as of press time). Next up is Timber Creek at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Southlake before a road contest at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday against Richland.

Boys soccer: Dragons go 3-1 in Round Rock

The Dragons also open district Tuesday against Central but were at home (results not available as of press time)

Carroll was coming off a 3-1 showing last weekend at the Round Rock Tournament.

The boys squad started off strong offensively, blowing past Austin Westwood (4-0) and Round Rock Stony Point (4-1) but were unable to find the back of the net against Round Rock in a 1-0 defeat. Carroll rebounded to finish on a high with a 1-0 decision over Round Rock McNeil.

The Dragons continue at 7 p.m. Friday at Timber Creek and host Richland at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
