Pedestrian killed in early morning accident identified
By Andrew Snyder, asnyder@starlocalnews.com
The pedestrian killed Wednesday morning in a car accident on southbound U.S. 75 in Plano has been identified.
According to Plano PD, Jimmy Dean McCarty, 56, was hit by a Ford Mustang just south of Park Boulevard at about 5:30 a.m. while trying to cross the highway. The driver of the car was not injured in the crash.
“She had no time to react,” said David Tilley, Plano PD spokesman. “This individual apparently came out of nowhere.”
The Mustang had just entered onto the highway and was probably not up to highway speed at the time of the collision, which occurred while still dark.
Police think McCarty may have been homeless because of his appearance and information provided by the person who identified him. His last known residence was The Bridge, a homeless shelter in Dallas.
It is believed he was killed on impact.
It is unknown why McCarty was trying to cross the highway at the sight of the crash when there was a bridge with a walkway about 500 yards to the south.
The crash caused heavy delays on the highway for several hours, Tilley said.
