Today is the first day aspiring officeholders can file for a spot on the ballot. So far, two candidates each have filed for Plano school board and Plano City Council.

Ben Harris, currently occupying Place 2 on the Plano City Council, filed to run for re-election. David Downs, former planning and zoning commissioner, filed to run for Place 8, a spot currently held by soon-to-be term-limited councilman Lee Dunlap.

Yoram Solomon, vice president of corporate strategy at Interphase Corporation, filed for Place 6 on the school board, currently held by Marilyn Hinton. Tammy Richards, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star and current school board president, filed for re-election to Place 1 on the school board.

On the council, terms for Places 2, 4 and 8 and the office of mayor will be expiring this election cycle. Candidates for Places 2 and 4 must be a resident of each place's respective district. Candidates for mayor and Place 8, both at-large places, may reside in any portion of the city. Residents may vote for all candidates regardless of what district they live in.

Candidate packets for council may be picked up from the city secretary's office, 1520 K Avenue, Ste. 300. To make an appointment to pick up a packet, call 972-941-7120.

Those looking to run for Places 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 on the school board may pick up candidate packets from the Plano ISD Communications Office, 2700 W. 15th St. To make an appointment to pick up a packet, call 469-752-8143.
