The Garland ISD Board of Trustees approved Doug Stephens as the new head football coach at Rowlett on Tuesday.

Stephens has been the offensive coordinator at Sachse for the previous two seasons, where he helped the Mustangs rewrite the offensive record book as they made their first two playoff appearances in school history.

Among his other stops, Stephens has also been an assistant at Katy Taylor, Southlake Carroll and Lakeview Centennial.

Stephens takes over for Kiff Hardin, who stepped down from the position following the end of the 2012 season to pursue other endeavors.

Stephens becomes the third head football coach in school history, joining Tommy Watkins (1996-2000) and Hardin (2001-2012).
