Swimming: Lady Trojans sweep diving medals

C-FB ISD swimming and diving programs were in action Thursday-Friday when they competed in the District 9-4A Championships.

The event was hosted at The Colony Natatorium and the featured programs from Creekview, Newman Smith, Ranchview, The Colony, North Hills and Highland Park.

The top six finishers in each event qualified for regionals, which are slated for Feb. 7-9 in Frisco.

Highland Park made it a clean sweep in the team standings (259 girls, 188 boys). Smith followed in second on the girls side (76) with The Colony (72.5) and Creekview (42.5) in third and fourth, respectively. The Cougars took second in boys action (113) and were followed by the Mustangs (96) and Trojans (54).

Newman Smith was powered by a first-place finish in diving from Connor Shackelford (383.90), who won his second consecutive district title. The Lady Trojans completed a sweep in diving with Brittany Naon in first (267.45), Gabby Sanchez in second (174.55) and Brittany Kauffman in third (155.80).

In the pool, Taylor Mason led Smith with silver in the girls 500-yard freestyle (5:51.65) and fourth in the 200 free (2:12.14) in addition to qualifying with the 200 and 400 free relay teams.

Adrien Lewis, meanwhile, finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.75) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:15.23) and advanced in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.

Also advancing for Smith were Bryn Smernoff (100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Kaleigh Putter (200 free relay, 400 free relay), Laura Kanter (200 free relay, 400 free relay), Jackie Brewer (200 medley relay), Erica Faircloth (200 medley relay), Sanchez (200 medley relay), Kauffman (200 medley relay), Eric Drake (200 medley relay, 400 free relay), Mihai Stanciu (200 medley relay, 400 free relay), Quintin Livington (200 medley relay, 400 free relay), Austin Fox (200 free relay), Zach Bentley (200 free relay), Geoff Bergman (200 free relay), Shackelford (200 free relay) and Christian Young (diving).

From Creekview, medalists included the girls 200 medley relay featuring Jaqueline Moad, Katie Thomson, Jacobu Geier and Ann Claire Karalyos (second, 2:15.14), the boys 200 medley relay comprised of Mark Mathews, Travis Mayfield, Axel Dominguez and Nelson Dominguez (third, 1:51.23), the boys 200 free relay consisting of Nelson, Axel, Mathews and Mayfield (second, 1:38.28) and Mayfield in the 50 free (second, 23.69) and 100 free (third, 52.36).
