Attempted murder-suicide leaves shooter dead, victim wounded in Providence Village
From Staff Reports
A 50-year-old Providence Village resident killed himself and critically injured his wife Saturday night in an attempted murder suicide.
Providence Village is an incorporated community along U.S. 380 north of Little Elm.
According to information released by the Denton County Sheriff’s Department, deputies heard gun shots when they arrived at the man’s house in the 1300 block of Oakcrest Drive after a 911 dispatch. When the deputies entered the home, they found the body of the shooter and his injured wife. The man had shot his wife in the abdomen with a handgun before fatally shooting himself.
The 23-year-old mentally disabled daughter of the woman also lived at the residence but was not harmed in the shooting. She was placed in the custody of family members on Sunday morning.
Deputies were dispatched to the home where the shooting took place after receiving a 911 hang-up call at 11:17 p.m. on Saturday. The call was returned, and when no one answered the phone, deputies were dispatched. The daughter called back a few minutes later and gave her address to a dispatcher.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and this story will be updated as new information is released.
