Marcus couldn't have asked for a better start in District 5-5A.

The Marauders and Lady Marauders have had two team matches thus far and are yet to drop a single match, including a 19-0 win Tuesday against Lewisville. The team previously secured a shutout win over Denton Ryan in its opener.

The win improves Marcus' overall record to 9-1 and the Marauders are currently ranked 19th in the state according to the Texas Tennis Coaches Association.

"We did a good job," said Kelly Langdon, Marcus head coach. "We did much better in doubles than we had the week before. We were much sharper and that was something we had really been working on in practice."

Langdon credited the play of the boys doubles teams of Sebastian Langdon and Ben Wegendt, which won 8-0, as well as the duo of David Wittkower and Tucker Barnes.

"Our top girls team of Preethi Kasilingam and Molly Fisher played very well, too," Langdon said. "But they've been solid all season long."

Lewisville, meanwhile, is still seeking its first win in district but is making improvements.

"The season is going well for us," said Manuella Rogers, Lewisville coach. "The kids are playing to their highest potential. All the players have been playing well and are working hard to make improvements. We had some good wins in preseason matches and Troy Kim and Ashley Syed have been playing very well.

"I feel the program is going in the right direction and that the kids are working hard every day to reach our goals."

Lewisville continues at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Flower Mound, while Marcus plays at the same time and date at Hebron.

"It should be a good match," Langdon said. "They played Flower Mound last week and lost a close match. They're pretty good and are pretty balanced on both the boys and girls sides."
