Football: Dragons handle Texans in battle of district unbeatens
By Justin Thomas, jthomas@starlocalnews.com
Friday's 4-5A contest between Southlake Carroll (6-1, 4-0) and Justin Northwest (5-2, 3-1) was supposed to be a showdown for the top spot in district with both the Dragons and Texans entering unbeaten.
But by halftime, the Dragons had already put their stamp on the game and taken control of the race as Carroll cruised past Northwest, 45-0, including a 42-0 advantage after two quarters.
Quarterback Kenny Hill had a big game and first half in particular for Carroll, accounting for all five of the Dragons' first scores, including two rushing touchdowns. Hill threw touchdown passes in the first half to Luke Timian (13 yards), Ryan Weigel (29 yards) and Keaton Duhon (32 yards) and finished 17-of-24 for 296 yards to go with 83 yards rushing.
Defensively, Carroll limited Northwest to 197 total yards, including just 126 yards rushing on 35 carries. The Dragons also forced three turnovers, two of which were interceptions.
Carroll looks to stay perfect in district at 7 p.m. Thursday against Keller (2-5, 2-2 in 4-5A) from the Keller ISD Athletic Complex.
