The Flower Mound Police Department is investigating a murder that took place at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Flower Mound Road.
Officers located Darnell Lamont White, 55, who had what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head.
He was found sitting in the driver's seat in a white four-door car in the parking lot of a strip mall located near the intersection of Flower Mound Road and Garden Ridge Road. The victim was taken by CareFlite to Methodist Hospital in Dallas in critical condition, and he died around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"As we go through the preliminary stages, there are a couple of things that lead us to believe that the suspect was affiliated with the shooter," said Capt. Kurt Labhart. "This was not a random crime of opportunity."
Labhart said police believe White worked in Lewisville and lives in Justin and that he stopped in Flower Mound on his way home from work.
Labhart said this is the first murder in Flower Mound since December 2011 when two elderly residents in a nursing home got into an argument, and one struck the other with a cane. The victim later died, and Labhart said that technically classifies the incident as a murder.
There were no homicides in Flower Mound in 2010, but in 2009, Garrett Cole Gower, 20, killed his girlfriend, 16-year-old Brittany Munoz and her unborn child. He was convicted in 2010. There were no murders in the town in 2008.
The police department is asking anyone with information to call police at 972-539-0525 or the anonymous crime tip line at 972-874-3307.
