Officer Landry Jackson, a nine-year veteran of the Allen Police Department, was struck near the intersection of Greenville Avenue and Exchange Parkway while responding to an injury accident call Saturday morning.

Jackson suffered minor injuries in the accident and was treated and released the same day, said Sgt. Jon Felty, Allen Police Department spokesman.

Jackson was on his police motorcycle at the time of the accident, proceeding with lights and siren through the intersection as the light for the southbound traffic on Greenville turned green, Felty said.

"There's three lanes headed southbound at that point. The first two lanes yielded to his emergency vehicle. The person in the third lane did not," Felty said, adding that the driver didn't see Jackson "until they hit him."

Felty said the damage to the motorcycle appeared to be major, but the full extent won't be known until the insurance adjusters make an assessment.

"The motorcycle looked more severe than it was," Felty said. "[Jackson] was very fortunate. His injuries were minor compared with what it could have been."

Jackson will be off duty for "at least a couple of weeks," Felty said.

The driver who struck Jackson was not charged.

"It was an accident," Felty said. "It wasn't intentional."
