Interactive workshops allow Highland Springs residents to ace mobile technology
By Jeff Getek
DALLAS, TX---The monopoly on the latest tech gadgets doesn’t rest solely with Generation Y.
From tablet-savvy seniors to smart phone newcomers, residents of Highland Springs had the opportunity to test the latest mobile technology devices on Nov.14.
The North Dallas retirement community hosted the AT&T Reconnect Tour, a partnership with Senior TechRALLY™. The event was part of a 15-city tour that offers seniors a fresh perspective on smart phones, tablets and wireless technology.
Judy O’Connor, a resident of Highland Springs who attended the event, is no stranger to technology. The former teacher owns a computer, digital camera, cell phone and an e-book reader.
“The Senior TechRALLY was very well done,” described Mrs. O’Connor. “As a retired educator, I appreciated their teaching techniques that allowed us hands-on opportunities to utilize the tech items. The workshop setup was conducive to learning the features of tablets and smart phones in a non-pressure setting.”
The appreciation is a two-way street, according to Darlene Laird of Senior TechRally.
“Our IT specialists love the ‘aha’ moments experienced during their classes,” noted Ms. Laird. “It’s rewarding when people engage mobile technology to stay close with family members and friends. For seniors, it’s a valuable resource because loved ones can live so far away. Knowing how to take a photo with a smart phone or use a tablet provides a new way to connect.”
