At least two people were killed in early morning one vehicle accident on Interstate 35E in Lewisville.
Lewisville police responded to the accident around 7:30 Sunday morning. Police believe that a small SUV travelling north on I-35E lost control of the vehicle and rolled six to eight times toward the southbound lanes. Police have shutdown I-35 northbound beginning at Main Street. Traffic is being diverted to the frontage roads.
"At this time, we have two confirmed fatalities from this accident," said Capt. Jay Powell. "There were more occupants of the vehicles who were ejected from the car."
Powell said one person died at the scene and another died at an area hospital. At this time, all of the vehicle's occupants have been transported to area hospitals.
Police are currently investigating the accident, and the medical examiner was on scene around 9 a.m.
"We have the northbound lanes shutdown while we investigate this, but we had no crash site on the southbound lanes," Powell said.
