By Andrew Snyder, asnyder@starlocalnews.com
Pilot Point resident Lloyd Schuster was killed Saturday morning when a train collided with his vehicle at a railroad crossing at the intersection of U.S. Highway 377 and FM 455. Schuster died at 9:40 a.m. of blunt force trauma to the chest and head, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office.
Witnesses said the railroad crossing arm was hitting the hood of Schuster's vehicle before it was hit by the train, said Pilot Point Police sergeant Robert Powell. The train hit the vehicle on the front driver's side bumper, and one of the railroad crossing arms was destroyed in the collision.
Schuster was driving a Toyota Venza, a mid-sized crossover SUV. The vehicle was knocked from the roadway by the collision and landed upside down in a nearby ditch, according to Powell. The collision occurred at approximately 9:32 a.m. Schuster was dead when police arrived at the scene.
