DCTA fare changes approved for Jan. 14 implementation

Published: Friday, October 26, 2012 5:11 PM CDT
DCTA board of directors approved changes to the fare structure affecting some local system and regional fares, as well as reduced fares. No changes will be made to Connect, Connect RSVP or Access fares. Fare changes will be effective Jan. 14.

Board approval followed a series of public meetings held in early October where DCTA staff discussed proposed fare structure changes and collected feedback from the community. The agency's goals associated with the changes will help balance ridership growth while increasing cost recovery, improve opportunities for travel on the local system, provide regional fare consistency with DART and The T and minimize impact on the transit dependent.

Local passengers utilizing the DCTA local system will now be able to purchase a local system two-hour pass instead of a one-way pass, allowing unlimited travel during that two hour time period. DCTA is also implementing a local system mid-day pass to encourage travel during the mid-day. The new pass is valid for unlimited travel from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during weekdays. These two new pass types are valid on the A-train, Connect bus service, Connect RSVP and UNT Shuttle and are only available for purchase through ticket vending machines located at all five A-train station platforms.

Passengers traveling outside of the DCTA service area and using a regional pass will also be able to purchase a regional two-hour pass and a regional mid-day pass through ticket vending machines located at the A-train station platforms. Passengers regularly traveling the regional system will see an increase in the monthly and annual regional day passes retail rate, but can benefit from the university pass program or DCTA bulk pass program. Pass rates within these programs will not increase in 2013 and passengers are encouraged to contact DCTA for more information on getting involved in one of these programs.

The 2013 fare structure will also implement changes to the reduced fare which is available for seniors over the age of 65, the disabled, Medicare card holders and children. A new reduced annual pass will be offered in addition to slightly higher reduced fares on the local and regional system.

A chart outlining the fare structure changes is available at http://www.dcta.net/news-events/news-and-events/menu-id-59.html.
