Flower Mound issues boil water notice

Published: Monday, October 22, 2012 1:21 PM CDT
An interruption in water service for customers located on and west of Post Oak Road within Flower Mound is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 29.

The interruption is necessary to connect new water pipeline sections associated with the future Cross Timbers Road (FM 1171) improvements project.

Those who obtain water solely from an alternate source not connected to the town of Flower Mound will not be affected. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires the town to issue a Boil Water Notification in conjunction with the service disruption. Customers should boil water once service has been restored, and until the notice has been rescinded. The boil water notification is a precaution that applies only to those customers who experience the service interruption. The mandatory TCEQ language required to appear in this notice is as follows:

Due to conditions which have occurred recently in Town of Flower Mound water supply, PWS ID #0610023, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption. To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and for making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you. If you have any questions regarding this matter, you may contact the Town of Flower Mound.

Water samples will be collected and tested immediately following completion of the pipeline connection to ensure the work did not introduce contaminants. The boil water notice will be rescinded immediately following receipt of a negative test result indicating the absence of contamination. Results will be available no later than 4 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Timely updates regarding the status of the boil water notice will be available on the town’s website at www.flower-mound.com. Residents interested in receiving updates via email are encouraged to send a request to publicworks@flower-mound.com. Email notifications will be distributed on two occasions 1) once water service is restored and the boil water notice is issued and 2) at such time that the boil water notice is rescinded. The Town’s water supply consistently meets all requirements of a “Superior Water Supply” as classified by TCEQ.

Contact Flower Mound Public Works at 972-874-6400 for additional information regarding this project, the boil water notice, or any water quality issues.
