Little Elm dedicating new lakeside recreation center on Saturday

Published: Thursday, November 8, 2012 12:40 PM CST
Formal dedication of the Little Elm Recreation Center at 303 Main St. on the shores of Lake Lewisville, which will kick off the Little Elm Fall Festival, is set for Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of the new center.

“While we had a soft opening a few months ago, Saturday’s event will be the official grand opening for the recreation center,” said Tony Chrisman, Director of Parks and Recreation. “The Fall Festival sets a festive mood for the day and gives the grand opening the right spirit of community and celebration.”

The 26,664 square foot facility will be open for public tours throughout the festival and visitors are encouraged to try their hand at some of its amenities. In addition to a full-size basketball gymnasium, which can be partitioned to accommodate several games at once, there are two full-sized volleyball courts and a 2,000 square foot fitness room.

Patrons of the fitness room can make use of cardiovascular equipment, including treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, step mills and a spinner bike. Weight-resistance equipment includes both pin-loaded and plate-loaded gear, featuring a free-motion, dual-cable cross machine. In addition, workout enthusiasts can make use of a supply of free weights. Urethane dumbbells, bench press, multipurpose squat rack, and linear leg press machines round out the array.

Five 42" flat screen TV sets are situated in the fitness area for the enjoyment of users.

“Part of the allure of the Recreation Center is, of course, its striking views and proximity to the lake,” Chrisman said. “To maximize that feature, an outdoor terrace overlooks Lake Lewisville. There is also a very pleasant outdoor walking or jogging trail right on the banks of the lake.”

The Recreation Center also includes a multipurpose room, suitable for structured fitness classes, birthday parties, dance classes and rentals. A fully-functioning, commercial-grade kitchen and food preparation area are both available for special events, social gatherings or business meetings. Classrooms suitable for youth and adults are also part of the amenities.

Personal fitness training, specialty group training such as boot camps, Combat Club, etc., recreational classes for youth and adults and both basketball and volleyball leagues will be offered for a fee.

“Since this is a Little Elm facility, there will be information available at the grand opening regarding residential membership registration. For the grand opening, however, no registration is required,” added Chrisman.

The Fall Festival will include a two-hour Zumba-Thon, bounce houses, arts and crafts, face-painting, carnival games, door prizes, refreshments, vendor exhibits and plenty of family fun activities. All events are free.

“We’re very excited about the new facility, and we’re confident that residents will share in that excitement. The Recreation Center is something the entire town will be proud of,” Chrisman said.
