What Gives: There's got to be a Morning After

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young once instructed us to "Teach your children well." If only we had listened instead of just sang along.
In yet another sign of the times (along with the Bloomberg Machine's indefatigable pursuit of homogenizing society into the Big-Brother-Knows-Best mess), New York City has launched a campaign believed to be unprecedented in its size and aggressiveness. The Associated Press reports the Rotten Apple is handing out the morning-after pill to girls as young as 14 at more than 50 public high schools - sometimes even before they have had sex.
Valerie Huber, president of the National Abstinence Education Association, calls it "a terrible case once again of bigotry of low expectations."
Breuner says emergency contraception is safe and effective "if you use it in a timely fashion. It provides relief or solace to a young woman (14 is a "woman"?) or man who has made a mistake but doesn't want to live with that 'mistake' for the rest of their lives."(After all, there are enough of the seven billion of us who have been told we are a "mistake" to begin with.)
And to make the service as convenient as possible, parents are being encouraged to sign a form giving their child or children permission to receive the pills without needing parental consent each time their offspring elects to 'take advantage' of the service. But beside all that, here's the bottom line: The program is seen as a means to reduce more than 7,000 pregnancies each year among girls ages 15 to 17 in the City. More than two-thirds of those pregnancies end in abortions.
There are a number of considerations to this startling news, of course. For instance, there is the thought this is a complete usurpation of parental rights. There's also the issue of saving money for the health care system appearing to take precedence over what many see as something much more important than money: Life. Which, of course, introduces into the conversation the searing-hot topic of abortion.
Then there is the matter of getting pregnant being more of a fear than contracting sexually transmitted diseases. And for many there is also the matter of God in all this, or at least the moral turpitude concern we humans of conscience supposedly wrestle with. But even if you manage to subtract Him or that from the equation, there's still an even bigger issue than any of the others already noted: What are we teaching our children about the ramifications of their choices? If it feels good, do it?
This campaign and others like it (be assured, NYC is not the only promoter of such amorality) are, in essence, promoting sex among kids - also known as immorality. It is saying there are no consequences to the choices they make. It is teaching them there are no consequences to the choices they make. Gone is the maxim that good choices bring about good results and bad choices have bad consequences. It's just do whatever you want and there are no repercussions whatsoever!
And what about those kids who want to make a right, or good choice regarding having sex before marriage - or at least before they are ready to be responsible adults? There's no motivation for them to make a good choice through this kind of reasoning.
This "morning-after" stuff will lead to some inescapable ramifications of its own. If our children do not learn from us now that there are consequences to all of our actions - intended or not - we as a society will come to a point very quickly where not only will we not be able to teach our children well, the morning after won't just be a headache, it will be the death of our society. Forever.
And that's not simply hyperbole.

" Great article J. David. Great, but sickening nonetheless. But what do you expect from the same state that also has a mayor acting as God, banning soft drinks over 16 oz. in size? Jeez! Thanks for having the guts to call out these incredibly immoral people. "
