Frisco ISD selects firm for superintendent search: District chooses Plano educational consulting firm

Published: Tuesday, October 9, 2012 12:19 PM CDT
The Frisco ISD board of trustees unanimously voted Monday to accept Superintendent Rick Reedy's retirement and selected a consulting firm to help find his replacement.

At the meeting, the board selected Plano-based N2 Learning to consult in the search for Reedy's replacement. N2 Learning previously consulted with the district's strategic planning earlier in the year.

Renée Ehmke, president of the board, said N2 Learning will help expedite the search since it's a local firm that already knows Frisco ISD.

"We are a very good fit for them and they are a very good fit for us," Ehmke said at the meeting. "They know Frisco, they know our district, they know our culture, [and] they know what we want."

The vote came after the board considered three options: conducting the search itself, using a national search firm or using a company that will work in conjunction with the board. The N2 Learning selection fits the final option as it will allow the board to take part in the search.

"The thing I really like about N2 Learning is they are the ones that walked us through the strategic planning [for Frisco ISD's district action plan]," Ehmke said. "They are not a search firm, per se -- that's not their job, which I think makes them a better fit for us."

Ehmke added that the district didn't need a large search firm to find its new superintendent as it already knows the type of candidates it wants.

N2 Learning already knows what Frisco ISD is looking for, Ehmke said, and will come at less than half the cost of a typical search firm.

Some of the tasks N2 Learning will oversee in Frisco ISD's search include the acceptance of applications and vetting of applicants.

"We really are looking into the best interest of the community as well as the district -- we want to do the best job," said Dan Mossakowski, the board's vice president, before motioning to use N2 Learning.

Ehmke ended the discussion by telling Reedy the district will never truly be able to find someone to fill his shoes.
