Presbyterian Hospital recognized
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen has been recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2011 by The Joint Commission, the country's top accrediting agency for hospitals. Texas Health Allen was recognized for surgical care and pneumonia treatment.
To be considered Top Performers, a hospital must score at least 95 percent in every accountability measure that it reports to The Joint Commission and for the specific measures outlined in this program. The measures are set to recognize facilities using evidence-based processes to care for conditions such as heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, and stroke.
Nearly 3,400 hospitals report data to The Joint Commission and of those 620 exceeded the 2011 thresholds to be a top performer. To qualify, hospitals must perform at least 30 procedures in a given specialty.
The Allen hospital is a 73-bed full service facility. Services at the hospital include surgery, emergency room services, women's services, a Level II neonatal intensive care unit, orthopedics, pediatrics, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, and wound care.

City Waste Services Division opening new center
The City of Allen Waste Services Division will open the new Allen Chemical Reuse Center (ACRC) inside the Allen Municipal Service Center, 900 S. Greenville, on Thursday. The ACRC will redistribute household products such as bleach, ammonia, household cleaners, latex paint, spray paint, wood stains, herbicides, pesticides, grout sealers, automotive products, pool chemicals and much more.
All ACRC items were collected from Allen residents that utilized the city's free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) curbside pickup program. These collected materials will now be redistributed to the community free of charge through the ACRC. As the ACRC serves as an extension to the Plano HHW Reuse Center, both Allen and Plano residents can pick up products at the ACRC. In order to pick up products through either center, a current utility bill and driver's license must be provided for address verification.
The ACRC will be open every Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. Hours are subject to the availability of city staff and volunteer support, and are subject to change. Please see www.cityofallen.org/HHW-Reuse for more information about the ACRC and the Plano HHW Reuse Center.
To volunteer at the ACRC, please contact Casey Bennett at 214-509-4555, or email cbennett@cityofallen.org for more details.
