Annual Autumn Festival and Carnival promises family fun

The end of September will mark not only the change of seasons, but the four-day fall celebration of Little Elm's annual Autumn Festival and Carnival at Little Elm Park, 701 West Eldorado Parkway.
Hosted by the Town of Little Elm and the Little Elm Festival Association, the fall festival will fill four days, starting Sept. 27, with entertainment that includes a barbecue cook-off, contests, pageants, a family carnival and more.
The Anything Floats Derby has been cancelled this year because of the lack of participation. All four days of Autumn Fest will host carnival rides. Music will be provided by CoCo Ban.
Battle of the Bands will be held from 6-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the park.
BBQ Cookoff
The annual BBQ Cookoff will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29 at the park.
Categories include brisket and ribs-spare ribs only, no babyback or country style ribs will be accepted as entries. Cook teams are allowed to set up at anytime on Thursday. An entry fee of $35 is due at or before the mandatory Cooks Meeting on Friday at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will be held later that evening.
Judging will take place Saturday starting at 11 a.m. for brisket and 1 p.m. for ribs. Meat will be scored on presentation, taste/flavor and tenderness/texture. Trophies will be given out for first through third place for each category.
Pets are not permitted in the barbecue arena. Entries must be cooked from scratch on-site. Meat is not allowed to be pre-cooked, pre-marinated or pre-seasoned prior to the start of the contest, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday.

Pretty Baby Contest
The 17th annual Pretty Baby Contest, sponsored by the Little Elm Lions Club and Creekwood School, will be at noon Saturday at the park.
Contestants will be judged on personality, appearance and casual dress by non-local judges. Pageant clothes are not allowed. Prizes include a $50 savings bond, trophies and ribbons.
The contest will begin at 12:05 p.m. for babies in the four-11 months age. At 12:30 p.m., the 12-23 months bracket will compete. At 1 p.m., those in the 24-35 months age range will compete with 36-48 months following at 1:15 p.m.
A $10 entry fee is required. Registration will be the day of the event and will close 30 minutes before each category begins. Checks can be made payable to the Little Elm Lions Club.
Miss Autumn Fest
The Miss Autumn Fest Pageant, sponsored by K&C Insurance Agency, will be held Saturday at the Little Elm Park Pavilion. Little Miss Autumn Fest, for ages 5-6 years, will start at 4 p.m.; Jr. Miss, for ages 7-9 years, will be at 4:30 p.m. and Miss Autumn, for ages 10-12, will begin at 5 p.m.
Contestants are asked to wear Sunday Best clothes. Shorts are not allowed. Contestants will be judged on charm, personality, smile, congeniality and appearance. They must give an answer to a question that will be given to them before the pageant.
Winners will be given a tiara, bouquet, gift certificate and trophy to take home. To enter the pageant, a $10 entry fee is required. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 27. Entertainment
Throughout the day on Saturday, entertainment will be provided through performances by school choirs, dance studios and martial arts students. At the end of the night, visitors will get to enjoy a spectacular display of fireworks.
All-you-can-ride armbands for the carnival will be from 6-10 p.m. Thursday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Advance tickets are $16 or $20 at the carnival. Tickets are sold at Dollar General, Independent Bank, Capital One Bank, Point Bank, the Little Elm Public Library or RTI.
Free public parking will be available Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Limited parking will be available on Saturday. Shuttle service will be provided every 15 minutes from 5:30-11 p.m. Saturday from the Little Elm ISD Athletic Complex, 1151 Eldorado Parkway.
