REEVES

Graveside services for Minnie Alice Ball Reeves will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. at Indian Mound Cemetery in Young County. A visitation will be conducted at Morrison Funeral Home in Graham, Tex. from 1 to 1:30 p.m., and a memorial service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, Tex. Sunday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m.
Mrs. Reeves was born in Stephens County on Aug. 30, 1909. She was the eldest of seven children born to Elbert Milton Ball and Eula Hopper Ball. She married G. Truman Reeves on June 20, 1930. She died Sept. 16 in Mount Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Sarah in 1941, her husband in 1988, and her son, John, in 2006; three brothers, Ray, Graham, and Milton Ball, and two sisters, Bula Mae Hoggard and Winona York.

She started school in Young County, graduated from Abilene High School in 1927, and earned a teaching certificate from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton. She started her teaching career in a three teacher school in Tonk Valley, south of Graham. Mrs. Reeves and her husband worked at schools at Imperial and McCamey until he began working for the State Department during WWII. She taught and worked as a librarian at a technical library during this time. The couple returned to Graham in 1964 where she lived until moving to Mount Vernon in 2005. She was a Baptist and taught Sunday school in each community where she resided.

She is survived by a sister, Pauline Nabors of College Station; a daughter-in-law, Betty Reeves of Plano; a grandson and wife, John and Susan Reeves of Mount Vernon; a granddaughter and husband, Cheryl and Scott Bellamy of Wylie; five great grandchildren, Sarah Driver, Jacquelyn Reeves, Kaitlyn Reeves, Madison Reeves, and Nikki Bellamy; and two great great grandchildren KayLynn and John Driver.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mrs. Reeves’ name to the First Baptist Churches in Graham, Plano, or Mount Vernon, Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, or Buckner Children’s Home.
