John E. King Jr., age 82, of McKinney, Texas passed away August 31.
He was born in Corsicana, Texas on April 12, 1930 to J. Etheridge and Melissa (Daviss) King, attended Navarro Jr. College, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1953.After Navy Flight Training he married Mich. State coed Mary Lonn Trapp of Beulah, Michigan in 1954 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He re-entered civilian life working as an auto claims adjuster for State Farm, retiring in 1988.
He was active in Parkway Presbyterian Church, a longtime SPEBSQSA'er, a supporter of the symphony, a community volunteer, and avidly pursued his great talent for fine woodworking and restoration of anything old, including classic cars.
Moving to McKinney, Texas in 1995 he was very active in Trinity Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending summers on Crystal Lake in Michigan, as well as tours to Europe, Scotland, Italy, and Australia.
He is survived by his wife Lonnie, son John E. King III (Susan), grandson John E. King IV (known as Jack) of Houston, daughter Lissa K. Magel (Greg) of Dallas, and brother Hugh D. King (Gail) of Dallas, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church in McKinney on Sunday, September 16 at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas.
