Better Career Planning Better Life?

Carl Nielson
Life. That seems too big to wrap your arms around. Can better career planning create a better life? I place a great deal of value on personal accountability, self management and interpersonal skills when it comes to finding success. Without those, all the career planning in the world won't help you become successful.
But what is it about career planning that makes the difference? People have been known to fall into success without much career planning. I call that luck. But more have fallen out of success. Career planning matters. And it matters as early as 9th grade.
This special summer seminar includes 12 class hours (3 sessions) of career exploration and leadership development. Subtitled the "ultimate career exploration journey", high school students from the McKinney, Frisco, Plano area will have the opportunity to explore careers based on their personal talent. The assessments are an in-depth analysis into behavioral style, personal motivation and engagement. Students will write a "personal mission statement" and develop a 5-year action plan for success. The program includes the opportunity to job shadow and/or interview people in the career of interest.
"We call it a "decision making skill seminar" states Carl Nielson, creator of the program. "Not only is Decision Making one of the 12 skills covered, the entire program focuses the coaching around utilizing proven processes to make decisions. Choosing a career is not the goal of this program. It can happen. But it isn't the goal. The goal is to help students learn how to make big decisions.
The Career and Leadership Summer Seminar program is open to all incoming 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders in the surrounding area. Star Local News readers can use coupon code CN2012X987Z to receive $100 off at time of registration.Deadline for registration is July 5, 2012.
